Theatre is a cultural space where society examines itself in a mirror. Theatre has long been looked at as a laboratory in which we can study the problems that confront society and attempt to solve those problems. Theatre teaches us about ourselves. Doing the theatre and watching the theatre teaches us about people, places, and ideas to which we would not otherwise be exposed. Learning in a theatrical setting makes learning fun.
Drama combines the literary arts of storytelling and poetry with the world of live performance. It comes as a source of stress buster, leisure activity for both the performers as well as the audiences.
We at PCTE give our students, a chance to showcase their talent through our Theatre Club, wherein the members organize and participate in various activities in and outside the college premises.
There are more than 350 members in the club. Every semester activities such as stand up comedy, situational acts, Just for Comedy, street plays (Nukkad Natak) and one act plays are being organized by the students. Not only in the college but club members are active outside the college as well. Students perform Street Plays (Nukkad Natak) in local areas such as Kipps Market and Rose garden of the city to highlight the evils of the society as Eve teasing, acid attacks, female foeticide, brain-drain, drug abuse, etc.
Not only this, our theatre students went to IITs (Roorkee, Saharanpur, Delhi, Mumbai)in the past years and won many awards and cash prizes in Street plays and stage plays! We annually perform world theatre day on 27th of March. To encourage the students to show their theatrical skills we have different events in our college cultural fest i.e., koshish in which various classes compete with each other in Nukkad Nataks/street plays.
2012 : Bagged 1st prize in Nukkad Natak ; 2nd in one act play ; Lovey Khatri awarded with Best Actor Award at IIT Saharanpur
2013 : 2nd position in Stage play ‘Andhe Hain Hum’ at IIT Delhi
2014 : 1st prize in Stage Play ; 1st in Nukkad Natak ; Savleen Arora was awarded with Best actress award at IIT Roorkee
2015 : 1st prize for stage play ‘Aankhein’ at IIT Roorke and Sharanpur ; The title of ‘Best actor’ & ‘Best Actress’ was awarded to our students Manjinder Singh and Ms Savleen Arora.
We have also performed in many inter colleges and inter-state competitions and have bagged many prizes for the college.
Last but not the least our Club has been successful in enabling some of the actors/members of the Theatre Club of past years to start their own ventures in theatre and acting career. They have generated self employment, getting name and fame and are serving the society to fulfill the real objective of education.
