Bodybuilding contest held at PCTE

PCTE Group of Institutes organized Body Building Competition on 15th February, 2013. The competition has been organized for the fourth consecutive year and has received a highly enthusiastic response. Over 200 students from various disciplines participated in the competition in multiple categories.

The contest had a lot of spectators and the judges Dr Deepak Prashar and Dr Ravi Prashar from the Ludhiana Bodybuilding Association were very happy to see that so many students in PCTE showed emphatic interest in Body Building.

In body lifting competition for boys, Lovejinder Singh, Hardeep Singh and Nitish Kumar bagged the first, second and third positions in Under 60 kg category. Harwinder Singh, Sandeep Singh and Ajay Rai were ranked first, second and third respectively in 60-70 kg category. Above 75 kg and above category, Gurtej Singh &Amanjot Singh, Rana Vashisht and Thinley Dorji were ranked first, second and third respectively. Harvinder Singh has been entitled “Mr. PCTE”.

In skipping competition for girls, Pooja, Zeenat Kalia, Inderpal Kaur bagged first, second and third position in under below 50 kg category. Sukhdeep Kaur, Deepinder Sekhon and Bhawna were ranked first, second and third in 50-60 kg category. In 60 kg and above category Aparna, Anjali won the first and second prize.

Mr. Kapil Prashar and Mr. Anil Sharma event organizers said that we were astonished to see the zeal of participants “We organize this event to encourage health consciousness among the youth.”

Prof. Swapan Chanana Unit Head, PCTE Group of Institutes on the occasion said, “Body building is a rigorous discipline. It demands dedicated commitment and constant hardwork on regular basis to win at a platform like this. We are elated to have some of the best body builders in the city at PCTE.”

Nail art competition organised at PCTE

No matter how well your make up, unkempt nails can spoil the fancy visual. The recent metro trends exhibit Nail Art as an upcoming style statement. The blend of creativity, colors and style sets the stage for a competition, thus PCTE Group of Institutes organized Nail Art Event. 30 Teams from various courses of PCTE participated in the event. Teams constituted of 2 members each. Being an feminine trend the event was competed in girls only whereas it was quite interesting to see a few boys interested in drawing designs.

In big cities, experts are giving huge weightage on pedicure and manicure. Nails are given royal care as it is coming up as a potential business these days. Rajwinder, a student of BBA said “Nails have always been under my special surveillance and I am happy to participate plus compete in this amazing event”, says the lady who finally found it amusing displaying her nails. Some of the MBA students were spotted discussing about opening up Nail Lounge and specialized boutique in the city which would be an exclusive one in the city.

Ms. Neelu Maini a leading saloon owner of Ludhiana was invited to judge the event. She was quite impressed to see girls pertaining keenly on art of nail keeping. Shweta Miglani, faculty PCTE B-School and fellow judge of the event stressed upon hygiene and safety required into nail keeping “ It is very important to understand & practice proper manicure as carelessness can encourage handful of infections due to long nails”

Rashi Marwaha, faculty PCTE & coordinator of the event quoted “Events like these help students to evolve out of their conventional thinking process. Also the kind of participation we have witnessed encourages & reflects contemporary student interests.”

Dr. V.P Mishra Director PCTE said that such events brings out hidden talent and creativity of the student.He also added that such activities help in developing team spirit and leadership skills.These activities help  the students to compete in highly competitive environment.

His Excellency, Gen.Alison Monani Magaya, Minister of Internal Affairs, Republic of South Sudan in India and Ambassador Deepak Vohra, Presently advisor to South Sudan govt. delivered a talk to students at PCTE group of Institutes.  It was sixth lecture  to be delivered under Lecture series “Your Excellency” of PCTE. In the series His Excellencies of various countries are invited to deliver talk to PCTE students and to share their countries heritage, culture and various economic, political and social aspects of business environment. Dr.K.N.S.Kang. Director General PCTE group of institutes, academicians and  eminent dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

His Excellency Gen.Alison Monani Magaya,   addressing the students  talked about south sudan , its independence, cultural heritage ,economic and political structure of the country.He quoted that powers of the world are shifting from west to south Asian countries. Today its not the weapon power which will drive the world, but its economic , and financial strength of the countries which will govern the rules of successful countries. His excellency also stresses upon the need of safe and healthy environment for the world to live . He said that future of the world will be guided by the youth  of the countries.

Ambassador also said that  building a strong and viable institutions of governance based on legalframeworks, building economies, promoting banking sector, trade investment, are the major challenges that south sudan  is facing.

He further said that  science and technology are the key instrucments that will help  the power houses of the world to unite and work together. He also advocated the role of Indian and africa as emerging markets for the western countries.

Dr K.N.S Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes said that Its a great opportunity for Young students to understand the potential of doing business globally while listening to various Ambassadors/Ministers. Dr.Kang while highlighting the commitment of the college to get global said that PCTE at present has more than 120 foreign students and three full time faculty members  teaching PCTE students from 20 countries.  He added that four students from France  has also joined  in the current session in Business management course.

PCTE PGDM students visit University of Angers, France in a Student Exchange Programme

PCTE Group Of Institutes three PGDM students Mr. Inderbir Makkar , Mr. Gurpratap Singh  and Ms. Sharal Norden from PGDM fifth trimester reached University of Angers, France yesterday for three month long trimester  in a  Students Exchange programme of PCTE and University of Anger, France. Four students from Angers will visit PCTE under the same programme next week. University Of Angers, France was founded by Napolean Bonaparte and is one of the largest University in France. PCTE signed an MOU with University Of Angers for faculty and students exchange and research.

Dr. K.N.S.Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of institutes said that it’s a big opportunity for the students and faculty to get International first hand exposure and information about the European markets. Dr Kang  added that PCTE has  twelve International MOU signed with leading institutes in  France, Poland, Lithuania, UK, Africa , Bangladesh, Srilanka and Pakistan. He further added that there are more than 120 students from sixteen countries studying at PCTE along with faculty members from Italy, Romania and UK.  Dr Kang said that today’s business is global business and it is very important that faculty and students must have global orientations to face the challenges of complex global business environment.

Inderbir, who called up from France yesterday said it was the first time they had stepped out of the country and were learning all the time inside and outside the class.

Lohri Celebration at PCTE

Kudi da saalu paatta ho!Salu kaun samete!Chache choori kutti!!! zamidara lutti!!! PCTE Group of Institutes today celebrated Lohri with a lot of exuberance and fanfare. The mood on the campus was upbeat and the students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. The children had a gala time as they danced around the holy bonfire and offered their prayers for the prosperity of the nation. The students and teachers sang songs immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab. A kite-flying competition was also organized, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.

Valerio Certo faculty teaching Spanish at PCTE said ” Its amazing to see how students organized this whole celebration. India is a country of wonderful inherit culture and I feel lucky to be a part of it and PCTE.” He also added “Kite flying for the first time was an absolute fun experience for me”. Jasmine, a student of BCA second year, organizer of the event marked the importance of this festival and also shared her joyous experience in organizing the event.

Lohri is the harvest festival of Punjab, famously known as the bread-basket state of India. Thus, people residing in Punjab attach a great significance to Lohri, the festival of feasts and foods. This harvest festival is celebrated to mark both celebration and sharing.Lohri festival prompts people to be thankful for God’s provisions and to celebrate his creations, its focus on farming.

Dr K.N.S Kang, Director General congratulated all and dwelled on the importance of such festivals. He also added that the whole function was a scintillating bonanza of modern and traditional culture and heritage. Ms. Punam Rattan, faculty in charge of the event said that, “The students were eagerly waiting to celebrate the Lohri and had planned the entire event themselves, so they had great fun.

PCTE faculty and two PGDM students will visit ISLB Lithuania under Faculty and Student Exchange Programme

PCTE Faculty member Prof Gautam Bansal, Deptt of Business Management, and two students Mr Deepak Wadhwa and Mr Inderdeep Singh Ghatora from PGDM first year will visit International School of law and Business, Lithuania for two weeks under Faculty and Students Exchange programme of PCTE and ISLB, Lithuania. In january 2013 delegation from ISLB comprised of faculty members and students will visit PCTE under the programme.The International School of Law and Business (ISLB) is a modern and fast-growing biggest private accredited University of Applied Sciences providing professional and higher education in Lithuania. PCTE has signed MOU with ISLB for faculty and students exchange in the field of business management for academics, research and training activities.  During the visit Professor Gautam Bansal, will teach Strategic Marketing subject to 3rd year students of ISLB degree programme and PGDM first year students will attend the classes in business management courses to gain knowledge and insights about European markets and business opportunities.

PCTE Alumni Meet 2012

“I will remember my campus life till I breathe because it gave me a reason to live”. PCTE Alumni Meet commenced with warm shake-hands and hugs as people met each other long time after. Till date PCTE has witnessed 11 pass out batches in various streams. The party was organized at PCTE | Campus 2 where the students from passed out batches of the campus got together with all sorts of joy in hearts to meet old friends and faculty. Students from MBA and MCA pass outs turned up in huge number. Manraj Singh Patar, MCA-2006-2009 Batch sang a melodious song on the occasion. People enjoyed DJ & Dinner as the environment turned ecstatic. The event was stated by a formal welcome address by Mr. Swapan Chanana, Deputy Director, PCTE Group of Institutes followed by a series of fun games hosted by Ms. Kavita and Ms. Rupali. The games were thoroughly enjoyed by the guests. The fun reached its extreme with the beats of music and dance. Every person went home with a spirit of nostalgia in heart and smile on faces.

Ms. Harpreet K Kang, Dean- International Affairs, PCTE Group of Institutes congratulated the Alumni and sprouted her best wishes to all on the occasion. She added that PCTE has been able to produce quality corporate people over the years and it is a very proud moment to see them successful and happy today at the mega event.

Eye Check up Camp at PCTE Institute of Pharmacy

PCTE Institute of Pharmacy in collaboration with Vasan Eye Care, Ludhiana, successfully organized Free Eye Check up camp under the guidance of Dr. Inderpreet Singh, Medical Director of the Vasan Eye Care, Ludhiana, along with his team members, on 2nd Nov 2012, at PCTE Campus 2, Ludhiana.

On this occasion Dr. G. S. Gill, Director Administration inaugurated the camp where 270 students, faculty members & staff of PCTE & people from nearby villages availed this opportunity. Experts guided & diagnosed the ophthalmic problems. Precautionary guidelines were provided for managing eye infections. B-Pharmacy students actively participated and learned about the management skills required in the Eye Hospitals.

Dr. K.N.S Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes emphasised that many of these types of camps to be organized in future, which will help in creating awareness towards health. All faculty and staff members made this event successful under the guidance of Dr. S. K. Munshi, Dean Biotechnology and Dr. B. S. Sekhon, Dean, PCTE Institute of Pharmacy.

Foreign Students welcomed at PCTE

Sixty new International students were welcomed to PCTE Group of Institutes in a welcome bash with lunch, party, DJ, music, games and dancing. In all there are now 119 students from 16 different countries studying at PCTE campus. Amidst this gala of events, they were addressed by His Excellency, Maj Gen V Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to India, Japan, Afghanistan and Nepal after lunch. He said they had half the world come together right here at PCTE, and they should make the best of it. These friends alone can mean trade, opportunities, and life long friendship. He encouraged them to bond with each other.

In this session 16 international students out of total 60 have joined from five new countries namely Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Namibia, South Sudan, and Burundi, and about 40 students passed out this year from various countries, informed Dr. K.N.S.Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes. International students from USA, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Tanzania, Mozambique, Angola, Lesotho, Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe were already studying in PCTE.

Dr. Kang said that “Ten students from South Sudan, 11 from Angola, 11 from Uganda and one each from Macedonia and Kyrgyzstan, 3 from Burundi, 1 from Namibia, 6 from Afghanistan, 7 from Tanzania, 3 from Rwanda have joined PCTE this year.”  He further elaborated that this year 19 International students have joined in BBA, 3 students have joined in B.Sc ATHM, 25 students in BCA, 2 students in B.Com (Professional), 4 students in B.Pharma , 3 students in Bio Tech,  2 students  in MBA IB and 1 student in each MBA and M.Sc IT. He said that the presence of International students in the institute builds up the morale of the Indian national students as well. To be at international global level one can groom oneself by having diverse opinions within the classroom, henceforth providing immense exposure to the students at large. Having International students have made PCTE go global.

Koena, a student of BBA-First semester, from Lesotho said that, “It hardly makes any difference to me whether I am in Angola or in India because my culture and beliefs are the same like Indians. I feel very comfortable here. PCTE is a second home to me.”

Bevania Martins, a student from Angola, who joined BCA said that it was wonderful to deal with different cultures and good way to meet all the foreign students and the presence of the Ambassador Namgyel made it more wonderful and I really thank Dr. Kang for organizing such days.

Bhutan Ambassador at PCTE Group of Institutes

Some may think since India is a great and powerful country and Bhutan is a small one, the former might wish to exercise pressure on Bhutan, it is therefore essential that I make it clear to you that our only wish is that you should remain an independent country, choosing your way of life and taking the path of progress according to your will. At the same time, we two should live with mutual goodwill. We are members of the Himalayan family and should live as friendly neighbors helping each other.” These are the words with which HE, Maj. Gen. V.Namgyel, Ambassador , Kingdom Of Bhutan to India nailed his speech. He was quoting India’s first Prime Minister, Mr. J L Nehru quote unquote in this paraphrase, during Mr. Nehru’s visit to Bhutan along with his daughter, Indira Gandhi in 1959. The Ambassador was interacting students of MBA, MCA and MBA International Business at PCTE Group of Institutes. This was the sixth lecture delivered under the Lecture series “Your Excellency” of PCTE.

The Ambassador described the journey in most fascinating terms, when he illustrated how the father and daughter duo of Mr. Nehru and Ms. Gandhi had journeyed to Bhutan on horseback  and Yak back over the Himalayas way back then to create this special nexus between the two countries.

“Your Excellency” is a series of talks, where the ambassadors of various countries will be invited to deliver talk to PCTE students and to share their countries heritage, culture and various economic, political and social aspects of business environment. Maj Gen. Namgyel is the sixth Ambassador to come to PCTE to talk to students. He has been preceded by the Ambassadors from South Africa, Poland, Guinea, and Namibia. Besides, them the Indian Ambassador to Lithuania, His Excellency, Mr. Deepak Vohra has also interacted with students on three different occasions, including “Your Excellency” series, informed Dr. K NS Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes.

Ambassador while addressing the students said that today the overall happiness and well being of the people is main objective of Gross National Happiness, economic progress remains an important national goal. Apart from generating a good income for the people to enhance their quality of life.

He further said that India and Bhutan have already proved to the world that a relationship is based on complete trust and understanding which results in lasting friendship and mutual beneficial cooperation. His Excellency also motivated and encouraged the students to aim high in their life and build strong and progressing India for the generations to come.

2nd International Student’s Conference on Latest Trends in IT held at PCTE

Computer Science Society of PCTE Group of Institutes successfully organized 2nd International Student’s Conference today. More than 35 research papers were received from renowned institutions all across the country.

15 research papers were presented on the Latest Trends in IT like Network Security, Cloud Computing, Image Processing, Bandwidth Management System, Automated Traffic Progression and Regulation, Compilation Server and dedicated learning techniques etc.

Dr. K.N.S. Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes congratulated the students and appreciated their effort for doing research and presenting their research work at this age. Mr. Amandeep S. Patti, Deputy Dean, Computer Science emphasized on SaaS and various platforms, Infrastrucure as a service Software and Hardware technologies which can be explored by the students in the near future. Mr. Kapil Prashar and Mr. Vishal Sood, chairpersons of the technical sessions appreciated and acknowledged the quality research work being carried out by the students. They congratulated all the delegates for having a healthy discussion & interaction with all the presenters thereby resulting in value addition of all the participants.

Dedicated efforts put by student organizers Harneet Singh, Gagandeep Kaur, Sharanjit Kaur and Simranjit Kaur under the guidance of Ms. Richa Arora and Ms. Prabhjot Kaur in successfully organizing the conference are highly appreciable.

PCTE Student got Gold Medal in PTU Convocation

Madhuri Devi ( 2009-2012 batch) of Department of Biotechnology, Punjab College of Technical Education, Baddowal, Ludhiana was awarded Gold  medal in convocation function of Punjab Technical University held  at CT Institute of Technology. She scored 87.6% marks and stood first in the University. Dr. S.K. Munshi, Professor and Head, Department of Biotechnology, PCTE, congratulated the student and said that it  is the hard work and commitment of Madhuri that has paid her. He said that Biotechnology students of PCTE has always performed exceptionally well in University examinations and scored top positions.

Dr K.N.S.Kang: Director General PCTE Group of Institutes congratulated the parents of the student for their wards achievment. Dr. Kang said the PCTE is putting in lot of efforts in improving the quality of education in their institutes. He said that this achievement of the student will help her in her professional and personal life. He wished Madhuri good luck for her life.

PCTE Rated Best B-School in the Region by Outlook

Punjab College of Technical Education has been rated as best B-school of Punjab, Himachal, Rajasthan and J &K by one of the leading Indian Magazine OUTLOOK in the recently concluded B-school survey 2012.  PCTE got 35th rank among the private B-schools of the country.  PCTE has been rated best in the region by OUTLOOK consecutively from the last eight years. The Ranking was conducted by Marketing Research agency MDRA, a leading research agency through letters, E-mails, telephonic calls to students, alumni, faculty and personal visits by officials of the agency in the colleges. The ranking was basically done on five major parameters namely Selection process, Personality Development, Academic excellence, Infrastructure and placements.

Dr. Kang said that we at PCTE always worked towards overall development of the students so that they can compete with the best in this competitive environment.   He further said that these rankings are the results of the sincere efforts and performance of our students who are working at top position in the leading corporate houses of the country. He added that PCTE is known not only at national level but internationally as well, he quoted that more than 100 International students are studying at PCTE Group of Institutes; out of which Forty five international students have joined in the current session. Dr Kang added that PCTE has been rated among the best B-Schools of the country by Outlook since 2004.
